Nahum 1:7 The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.

The Problem: Distrust
Can I trust you to be completely honest with me? Will you always tell me the truth? Will you be faithful to me? These questions and others like them have been asked throughout time; from child to parent, parent to child, lovers to each other, voters to candidates, even congregants to pastors. Are you being honest with me? Can I trust you to do what you say?
“Trust forms the foundation of all relationships, and it is what enables people to rely on each other, communicate effectively, and work together towards common goals. Trust is built over time through consistent, transparent, and dependable actions, and it can be broken just as easily by deceit, betrayal, or dishonesty. Trust is a crucial element that is essential for building a healthy, functional society.” Thank you, Mr. AI in philosopher mode.
How many times have you heard or spoken the following words? You lied to me! You told me you were going to do this and you did the exact opposite! You purposely betrayed me, just to make yourself look better! You cheated on me and I’ll never trust you again!
Too familiar? Each one of us has sat on one side or the other of the “trust teeter-totter.” Unfortunately, over the course of our history, Man has slowly lost the virtue of being trustworthy. What was once considered an asset has now become an option. It’s definitely easier to perjure than take the heat. At one time there was no higher praise than to be called: “A man of his word.” That was then, this is now. Joke: How do you know when a politician is lying? His lips are moving! (ba-doom, chick) Our “faith muscles” are starting to atrophy and become vestigial. Our temporal minds tend to lessen the importance of honesty today. For one reason, others around us don’t take it too seriously. They rationalize dishonesty with the old adolescent chant, “Everyone else is doing it! C’mon in, the water’s fine!” The foundation of society’s structure is crumbling apart, eroded by a severe shortage of trust.
The Promise:
There has to be only one direction in which we aim our trust; only One person that can sit on the other side of the teeter-totter and never let us down. God promises that if we dedicate our trust to His Son, Jesus Christ, He, Himself will care for us. Think about that for a second. The Creator of the Universe makes it His priority to take care of us from tip to toe. The “good” He gives us is a million times better than the best Man can offer. Almighty God will also give us a refuge when we have nowhere else to go. It’s Fort Knox surrounded by the 7th Cavalry!
Who else is worthy of this kind of trust? Who will never leave us or forsake us? Who, by His very nature, cannot lie or deceive? Who sent His only Son to die for us? Still not sure? Do you want proof? Trust me, the answer is right below in “The Finer Print.”
