(Galatians 5:17)
For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
Beneath the skin of the nascent man,
A dying one plots an opposing plan
Unaware of his own futility.
I pursue Your path to learn Your will,
But stay my course disputing still
Naïve to his vanishing utility.
Your Word provides the sacred text,
But I, by my own pride perplexed,
Rewrite my lines anew.
Though righteousness is my lone desire,
My heart still plays with rebel fire
That’s stoked to a crimson hue.
I strive for what I know is right,
I do my best to endure the fight,
But bad just feels more comfortable.
You see me struggle to stay in the race,
You know my heart and still give grace
That ensures I’m completely recoverable.
The struggle is real as the story evolves
Yet I cling to an answer Your Scripture resolves,
Behold the new work of Your Son.
The combat begins with the dawn's fresh dread
Fighting to keep the dead man dead,
But the battle is already won.
“He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).
