~ Nahum 1:7
The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.
Can I Trust You? "Will you be honest with me? Will you always tell me the truth? Will you be faithful?"
These questions are as old as time, whispered from child to parent, lover to lover, and voters to candidates. We are all searching for the same thing: someone we can truly count on.
Trust is the invisible thread that holds our world together. It’s the foundation of every healthy relationship, allowing us to rely on each other, communicate openly, and work toward common goals. It is built slowly through consistent, dependable actions, yet it can be shattered in an instant by a single act of deceit or betrayal.
Here’s the Top Five on the trust-breakers' “Greatest Hits:”
1. Infidelity: Finding out your partner was unfaithful.
2. Gossip: A trusted friend betrays your confidence.
3. Money: A loved one lied about finances.
4. Deceit: Discovering a big lie about their past.
5. Abandonment: They promised to help but disappeared.
How many times have you been on the receiving end of these painful words?
“You lied to me!”
“You promised, and then you did the exact opposite!”
“You betrayed me just to make yourself look better.”
“You cheated, and I will never trust you again.”
We’ve all been there, sitting on one side or the other of the “trust teeter-totter.” Unfortunately, the virtue of being trustworthy seems to be fading. What was once the highest praise—to be called “a man of his word”—is now often seen as an inconvenient option. After all, it’s easier to lie than to take the heat. It brings to mind the old joke: "How do you know when a politician is lying? His lips are moving!" Ba-dum-bump!
When honesty is treated as optional, our "faith muscles" begin to weaken. We see others rationalize their choices with the old chant, “Everyone else is doing it!” It allows us to selfishly slip off the seesaw and let gravity do the dirty work. But, sooner or later, this choice leads to disaster. The foundation of our society is cracking, folks, eroded by a severe shortage of trust.
The Promise
So, where do we turn when the ground beneath our feet is crumbling? There is only one direction in which we can aim our trust; only One who can sit on the other side of that teeter-totter and never, ever let us down. God promises that if we place our trust in His Son, Jesus Christ, He will personally care for us.
Think about that. The Creator of the Universe makes it His priority to provide for our every need. The refuge He offers is impenetrable—a fortress of perfect security. It’s Fort Knox surrounded by the 7th Cavalry under The Iron Dome.
“Who else is worthy of this kind of trust?”
“Who, by His very nature, cannot lie or deceive?”
“Who will never leave you or forsake you?”
“Who loved you enough to send His only Son to die for you?”
Still not sure? The proof is waiting for you. Trust me, the answer is right below in “The Finer Print.”
